It feels like yesterday that I was chatting to Matt about changing his career. He used to be a tradie. A damn good fridgy, actually. But he hated it. The long hours, the back-breaking work. He wasn’t mentally stimulated. He agonised about changing his career and eventually decided that he should go to university. At first, he wasn’t quite sure what to study. He barely studied at school, and his own doubts about his capabilities was holding him back. He thought long and hard about trying to use the skills and knowledge he had already gathered through his trade, and possibly head to uni to study engineering.
In the end, he decided to follow his passion and enrolled in a degree in Finance/Commerce.
After enrolling, Matt knew it was going to be tough to stay on top of the reading material and constant assignments. He worked part-time and applied himself like I never could have imagined. He made many sacrifices and committed himself to the long days at the computer and thumbing through textbooks. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to sit and watch 3+ years of damn hard work pay off.
And I couldn’t be prouder.
Congratulations Matty. This is only the beginning!
