I went down to the beach recently with some very good friends to take some photos of them with their gorgeous 6 month old baby, little Mabel, and their puppy, Bear. Â We had some gorgeous light as the sun dipped behind the headland at Miami and I got to shoot with the D800. Â It performed very well – oh, I also got to play around with the Fuji x100 and a flash off camera (in a 28″ Westcott Apollo) – I used a single speedlight (at full power) and a fast shutter (thanks to the leaf-shutter) to control the ambient light for a different look.
As usual, Jas and I turned up a little early so I could have a look at the light and plan the shoot. Â I was initially concerned about how much beach we had to work on as it was high tide just as we were due to start. Â Thankfully, we had enough beach, but we did get surprised with a few waves rushing in. Â We also lost a little bit of beach to a group of guys partying under a marquee – there was plenty of beach to share and we got to enjoy the tunes they were pumping out (haha).
Bear was very energetic throughout the shoot. Â We had to tie him up for some puppy-free photos, but he didn’t mind – I think he was just happy to be at the beach.
I really enjoyed taking these photos and hanging out with Tom, Katie and Mabel – I hope you guys like the photos too.
