Help Portrait 2010

Hey guys.  I haven’t managed to post in a while, but I have a LOT of content to put up eventually.  My photo editing machine died, and I haven’t been able to get my HDD replaced quickly enough – but I will get back here to keep putting work up.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to let you guys in on something that I am proud to be a part of this year.  I love portraits.  People love portraits – they mean something.  They aren’t just a click of a shutter and a flash of light, they are a moment.  They are a moment between the photographer and the subject.  A moment within the subject.  A  moment that the subject has shared with the photographer.  This year, I’m proud to be involved with Help Portrait.

I first heard about HP when news of it spread through the interwebs.  Some of my favourite photographers and bloggers were involved.  The idea – take some selfless, non-portfolio-building images of someone who will appreciate it.  Let them have a moment they otherwise might miss out on.  Make them feel beautiful; special; interesting; desirable; sexy; funny; admirable; worthy.  This year, Brisbane HP is collaborating with Lifeline, Red Cross and the Wesley Mission, to make a few hundred portraits of some special people.  After giving them the chance to get dolled up with hair and makeup – we will be taking some images, retouching them on site, and providing them with a gorgeous image as they leave.  Everyone involved is donating their time, experiences, resources, space, skills and energy – to make someone else feel special.

If you are at all interested in helping us out, we are taking donations to cover printing/cleaning/paper/random expenses.  Follow this links here, to help us help others.  It would be greatly appreciated.
